New technologies to lead the way in oil and gas exploration

We caught up with Amanda Battersby from Upstream at OTC Asia 2016, who shared positive sentiments of the event turnout despite the current economic climate. Among her highlights was the keynote speech by Petronas Chief Executive Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin. He addressed the challenges brought by the oil price slump and shared how Petronas' technologies have enabled it to become the world leader in liquified natural gas (LNG) technology, which will be a game changer for the company. Amanda predicted that from this year onwards, Asia’s oil and gas industry will closely observe the commercial operations of floating LNG vessel, a world first by Petronas. There will also be a number of initiatives exploring different types of enhanced oil recovery methods as well as advancements in deep water technologies.

Asia can supply to its own demand

On Day Two of OTC Asia 2016, Editor’s Eye spoke with Mohit Kapoor, Chief Editor of Oil & Maritime. He noted that this is a time of opportunity for Asia as the region combines its experience of mature basins with growth in exploration and production activity. He believes that Asia will play an increasingly crucial role as a producing basin with the added strength that it will be able to supply its own demand. Mohit believes that policy will be a challenge for the region and that it must focus on enabling the ease of doing business with a greater acceptance of new technology.
