Fifth Ringers 'Think Pink' in a Bid to Become Part of the Cure

As communications professionals, we pride ourselves on our ability to react to the news agenda. But today, our timing can only be described as impeccable; because anyone who accidentally stumbles upon the Fifth Ring HQ in Aberdeen today and our Dubai offices on Sunday, will be met by a haze of pink.

The reason? No, it’s not champagne Friday (that’s next week!). Today, we are putting on a veritable display of support for Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘Wear It Pink’ day. And we’re not just dressing up to pay homage to loved ones affected by cancer; the Betty Crockers’ amongst us have also been putting their baking skills to the test, with a plethora of yummy cakes on tap, designed to boost the final fundraising figure.

And the event could not have come at a better time. Because today, fresh research published in the British Journal of Cancer has warned that cases are set to increase by 45 per cent in little more than two decades.

Research carried out by Cancer Research UK warns that the NHS will need to prepare for a climb in cases from around 298,000 in 2007, to 432,000 by 2030. The figures show that male cancer cases will see the biggest rise – by 55 per cent to more than 230,000 across the same time period, while cases amongst women are forecast to rise by 35 per cent (to in excess of 200,000).

And while the main reason given for this rise is down to the fact that people are getting older, the figures are a poignant reminder of why it is important for everyone to remember the big picture and give a little.

1/11/2011 - Fifth Ring is proud to announce that it has raised a staggering £490 for charity across its Aberdeen, Houston and Dubai offices, following the 'Wear It Pink' fundraising events. Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm and generosity.
