Supporting the Mighty Meetup

The ‘Mighty Meetup’ is a monthly meeting of the web community in Aberdeen. Established to give this growing industry a regular space in which to discuss developments, network, and educate each other.

Fifth Ring Digital are supporting the first event in the new 2011/2012 run, which takes place on the evening of 14th September 2011. Full details can be found at http://www.deerdigital.com/mighty/

The team at Fifth Ring have a long history with the Mighty Meetup. I was the first speaker at the first event in 2009 – giving a talk on the emerging node.js technology and how it can make mobile web experiences more interactive and immediate. More recently, Sean Delaney gave a presentation on the use of frameworks to improve the quality and reliability of the systems we develop.

The event is informal, accessible to anyone with involvement in the web.

Most of the Aberdeen based Fifth Ring Digital team will be attending on the 14th, so come along and say hello. No passes or invitations are required. Pizza and drinks will be provided. It promises to be an enlightening evening. If you have any questions ahead of the event please do get in touch.

I think there ia loads of potential in Aberdeen but Dundee is a perefct example of where we could be. I took a Common Purpose group down to Dundee earlier this year and they all came back buzzing about how people can work together. There are pockets of people working well together to make the city a better place. Whatever you think about them, initiatives like the Business Improvement District, Retail Rocks and the redevelopment of Marischal College are folk at least doing something, rather than complaining and sticking with the status quo. We just need to foster this attitude a bit more and talk ourselves up, instead of complaining in the P&J!I have a couple of ideas about some informal getting things done’ sessions (much along the lines of meet140) watch this space for more!
